Alcorn State Sinking After 85-66 Loss To Mississippi Valley State

In Itta Bena on January 14th the Braves were beaten by the Delta Devils, 85-66.

A couple items of note about these two teams: The Alcorn State RPI ranking was #337 and Mississippi Valley State was a much higher #149. On the road, the Braves aren't very good, and with this loss, that record now sits at 0-11. A year ago, Alcorn State went 0-2 against Mississippi Valley State. Over the last four years, the Braves are now 3-6 against the Delta Devils including 0-5 at Harrison HPER Complex. Since 1980, Alcorn State is on top, 36-31.

Mississippi Valley State destroyed Alcorn State in offensive rebounding and assists.

Mississippi Valley State created many more second chance opportunities with a total of 14 offensive rebounds to only eight by Alcorn State. Mississippi Valley State spread the ball around with ease, and its 18 assists gave it an advantage compared to eight from Alcorn State.

JaMichael Hawkins had the most points against the Delta Devils, scoring 15 on 35% shooting in 33 minutes. Xavian Rimmer led both teams with 10 free throws.

The Braves now find themselves at 4-13. Their conference record drops to 1-4, still good enough for 7th place.
